Increasingly, in this country, cruelty to animals are treated in a lackadaisy way. If those acts are revealed, the number of our 'caring' society numbers rarely outnumbered the oblivious. Some of us whom were enlightened were too languid to lift a little finger to care..
Dogs in this country gets the bad end of the stick here. Mostly claim the religion being the case.. But this is stated in Islam:
It is forbidden to cage animals, to beat them unnecessarily, to brand them on the face, or to allow them to fight each other for human entertainment. "They must not be mutilated while they are alive."[14]
Muhammad is also reported to have said: "There is no man who kills [even] a sparrow or anything smaller, without its deserving it, but Allah will question him about it [on the judgment day]," and "Whoever is kind to the creatures of God is kind to himself."[3][15]
It also states:
Hadith - Bukhari 4:531, Narrated 'Aisha 
The Prophet 
said, "Five kinds of animals are mischief-doers and can be killed even in the Sanctuary: They are the rat, the scorpion, the kite, the crow and the rabid dog."
Note to oneself : It says "rabid dog". Most dogs or cats or any other animals mistreated here are not rabid, just starved and destitute. And us whom has the capacity to feed and care instead starve and abuse them till they slowly, painfully dies.
What does this make us? The motivation for this raging verbal diarrhea at 2.30 in the morning stems from the chagrin I felt as I post a 'cry for help' of a case of mistreated animal on FB. A comment about 'shopping and self indulgence' propagated more response compared to a boring proverbial cry for help... Out of my 351 'friends' I hv in FB, 5 responded...
That brings on a question, what colour is your soul?
